As we mentioned in the start of this review, the Hema is exceptionally lightweight. In fact, the Hema weighs a mere 10 grams. This is the beachy equivalent of 150 grains of sand. To put that into greater perspective, a teaspoon of sand is equal to 3,300 grains of sand. The extraordinary weight of the Hema is partly thanks to an impossibly thin nylon frame. Despite the lack of weight, nylon is a highly durable material, which makes this frame great for running, hiking, or simply spending a lot of time outside. The non-slip silicone nose pads have also been weight-optimized by a hollowed-out design. Tacky temple tips give extra reassurance that these frames aren't going to slip off or fly away when you're out in the elements.
Lenses
As for lens material, the Hema is fitted with Maui Jim's lightest and thinnest option: MauiPure® LT lenses. Similar to the Hema's frame material, the lenses don't sacrifice quality in the wake of thin and light. They still manage to deliver optics close to the clarity of SuperThin Glass while gaining superior impact and shatter resistance. We hope you won't need it, but who knows?
