What do professional athletes ranging from the Winter X-games to the summer Olympics, boaters, outdoor enthusiasts, joggers, golfers, or pretty much anyone who is wanting a clearer view along with elimination of glare for their visual needs have in common? Polarized sunglasses. Polarized lenses contain a special filter that blocks light reflected from surfaces, such as a flat road or smooth water that can create an annoying and sometimes dangerous light. Find yourself squinting while wearing sunglasses? Polarized sunglasses improve comfort and visibility by cutting glare and haze that can come along with normal sunglasses. Whether it's climbing a mountain, or shredding down one, polarized sunglasses or prescription polarized sunglasses may be what is missing to take your outdoor experience to the next level.

When it comes to finding prescription sunglasses that cater to many lighting conditions, transition prescription glasses are a good option, and we have quite a few to choose from at SportRx. There are four Transitions, otherwise known as Light Reactive, lens options to choose from.
The original Transitions lens goes from clear to a medium grey or brown. The Transitions XtrActive (Light Reactive Plus) goes from virtually clear to a dark grey or brown. The newest addition to the line is Transitions Vantage (Light Reactive Polar) goes from clear to a medium grey polarized. Then there is Transitions DriveWear (Light Reactive Drive), which goes from a medium amber polarized to a dark brown polarized.
The most popular options are the Standard and the XtrActive, with the XtrActive owning the edge on the two. The Standard only changes with UV exposure, which means that they won’t get dark when you’re driving because car windows are treated with UV resistance. The XtrActive reacts to ambient/available light as well as UV exposure, so this lens does get darker behind the windshield, but it only reaches its full, glorious dark color when in full sun.
Finally there is the DriveWear, which takes a discerning eye to notice the change. It does get darker, but it is almost subtle enough that one may not notice that they have gotten darker while wearing them. If you are looking for any more detail about transition prescription sunglasses, just reach out to one of our amazing opticians because they love talking about this stuff.
