Video Review

Follow along with Eyeglass Tyler as he discusses single vision vs. bifocal vs. progressive lenses, and highlights the strengths of each lens.

Single Vision Lenses

Single vision corrects a single visual issue. These lenses rectify one focal length — near or far. Single vision glasses can be used for activities where you need to see farther away, like driving or walking. You can also use them when you need to see things closer to your face, like reading or working on a computer. This lens is great when it’s correcting just one distance.

Bifocal Lenses

Bifocal lenses correct for two focal distances as opposed to one with single vision lenses. Bifocals feature distance correction up top and better close-up vision at the bottom of the lens, divided by a visible line.

Progressive Lenses

Progressive lenses are everything you need in one lens. A newer lens technology, they correct for vision issues far and near, while covering everything in between as your eye scrolls down. These lenses don’t have the lines that bifocal lenses have, so the cosmetic appeal makes progressives a great option.

Single Vision vs. Bifocal vs. Progressive Lenses

You may be wondering, which lens is right for me? Well, that depends on your prescription needs.

If you have one optical issue to fix, then a single vision lens works best for you. If you’re having difficulty seeing far away and close-up, then bifocals can alleviate both and give you clearer visibility all around. If you don’t like the lines that appear on bifocal lenses and want a lens that handles distance, reading, and everything in between, progressives have all that you need.
