Oakley identified quality sunglasses as being a crucial part of baseball and saw a need for something better. That need was met through PRIZM Lens Technology. PRIZM Field is a performance-enhancing lens specifically designed for the baseball field environment. Sunglass Rob sat down with Joe Kelly, former Boston Red Sox World Series Champion and prescription-wearer, to talk about how PRIZM Field works and why it's the best lens for baseball.

Note: PRIZM Baseball (as referred to in the video) has since been renamed to PRIZM Field.

KEY BENEFITS of PRIZM FIELD

How does PRIZM Field Work?

It's hard to spot a pop fly way up in the air, especially if you're wearing run-of-the-mill sunglasses. The ball can blend in with the clouds, and the sun can throw off your vision. PRIZM Field lenses boost the critical colors and eliminate the distracting colors so you can see the important details on the field. By manipulating the light spectrum, PRIZM Field is able to enhance contrast to make the ball appear more vivid and easier to track against the textures of the field or sky.

PRIZM Field is also perfect for sports other than baseball—you can use them for softball or cricket too! The low VLT and rose base tint also make PRIZM Field useful in a variety of lighting conditions from cloudy to bright sunlight.

Are PRIZM Field Lenses Polarized?

No, they're not. PRIZM Field is part of the PRIZM Sport lens family. Aside from the fishing-specific lenses, they are all non-polarized.

This is because a polarized lens may inhibit your performance. Polarized lenses are great for glare reduction and recommended for water activities or driving, but the main drawback is that they may throw off depth perception. Needless to say, depth perception is crucial in baseball and other similar sports, which is why PRIZM Field isn't polarized. There isn't much glare on a baseball field either, so there aren't any particular benefits of wearing polarized sunglasses.

However, like with all Oakley authentic lenses, you still get 100% UV protection with PRIZM Field.
