Eyeglass Tyler goes over Maui Jim's clear lenses, their lens program in general, then gets to the actual unboxing and review of the MJO2211 in the video below. Keep reading to learn more!
You probably already know Maui Jim's quality just by having a pair of their sunglasses, but just in case we have to take a minute to talk about their incredible clear lenses! When you buy Maui Jim eyeglasses, you have 6 different lens materials to choose from:
- Mid Index (1.60)
- High Index (1.67)
- Maui High Contrast™
- Maui Blue Light Protect™
These last two are especially intriguing. Made of the high index material, the Maui High Contrast™ lens has a slight blue tint that's great for extra contrast in low light conditions and work great for things like reading fine print or driving at night. These lenses are not great for digital screen use, though—for that, check out the Blue Light Protect™ lens.
The Maui Blue Light Protect™ lens has all the features you'd expect from a great blue light blocking lens—it prevents eye strain and fatigue and protects against HEV blue light, all without a yellow tint. It's also made from the high index material. If you'd like to see how it looks in action, Tyler's wearing his own pair of Blue Light Protect™ lenses in the video!
Naturally, MauiPassport™ clear lenses have all the same quality and clarity you know from their sunglasses. Maui Jim is a company that believes in innovation first and foremost, hence why their eyeglasses come with all sorts of coatings. You have hydrophobic and oleophobic lens coatings to repel water and oil, an anti-reflective coating to improve lens clarity, and a ClearShell hard coating to prevent scratching. On top of that, all Maui Jim clear lenses are 100% UV resistant.
You can also treat Maui Jim eyeglass frames as an extension of their sunglasses. Add Maui Jim PolarizedPlus2® sunglass lenses to any eyeglasses frame, but note that your only lens options in that case are MauiBrilliant and polycarbonate.
Without further ado, the review you're here for. The MJO2211 eyeglasses have a classic look to them with an acetate frame that's durable and comfortable. Peak inside the frame and you'll see the stainless steel core etched with Kapa-style mountains, derivative of a traditional Hawaiian art style.
The MJO2211 has a rectangular lens shape that borders on square, giving it a deep lens that's great for progressives. Due to the angular shape of these eyeglasses, they look best on oval, round, or heart-shaped faces. They also have spring hinges and a saddle-style nose bridge to help these glasses fit perfectly no matter what type of face you have. And with a SportRx Frame Width (SFW) of 140, these eyeglasses are a pretty solid large to extra-large size.
Check them out below!
Inside the box, you'll also see a tri-fold hard case and a microfiber cleaning cloth. Tyler reminds you that while this cloth is reusable, you should throw it in the washing machine every so often so you don't rub dirt or dust into your lenses.
That's about it for the MJO2211. You can get it in prescription with authentic Maui Jim lenses from SportRx, so don't wait!
