Sunglass Rob goes over the similarities and differences between the two sunglasses. The differences mostly come down to fit, so watch our video or keep reading on to figure out which one is better for you.

Similarities

Both sunglasses are made from the same Grilamid frame material. This lends a very durable and lightweight feel to these sunglasses on top of their shared rimless design. Grilamid is super bendable and holds its shape, making it great for extreme sports or even people who just like this style for everyday use. There's a lot of rubber grip on both the nose pads and temple tips too, so you know they'll really stay in place.

They also both have anti-corrosive hinges that won't rust around water for those fishing fanatics out there. Aside from fishing, they're great sunglasses for golfing, hiking, running, driving, or really anything you can think of.

Not to mention, both Ho'okipa and Banyans are available in Asian Fit and sunglass reader options as well as in prescription! While the Rx version of both does have a slightly different frame, you can get both styles in prescription with authentic Maui Jim PolarizedPlus2® lenses from SportRx.

Differences

Like we said at the beginning, the differences mostly come down to sizing. The Ho'okipa has a SportRx Frame Width of 134, making these a medium or a medium-to-large pair of sunglasses. Basically, they're average in size. Rob also thinks you could potentially make a small-to-medium face fit these, since sunglass styles in recent years trend toward bigger. He has a big head but can still wear these just fine.

Since Rob tends to wear SFWs of 138 and up, the Banyans fit him much better. However, if you have a smaller face and like the look of larger lenses, you can still make these work for you too.

There is one other small difference between the two. The Banyans have some gaps for venting not found in the Ho'okipa, mostly because it's a newer design and has a few quirks to make the quality even better. That said, both sunglasses are Maui Jim classics!
