Why We Love Sunglasses (And You Should, Too!)

First and foremost, sunglasses are amazing. They are a unique product in that they serve two very important functions. Not only are they an aesthetic fashion accessory, they fulfill a very serious health necessity. UV exposure can damage your eyesight, promote early cataracts, cause wrinkles, give you pterygiums (a pink tissue that grows over your cornea), and create a laundry list of problems. So obviously, it is very important that we protect our eyes from harmful UV rays. And when playing a sport, eyewear can make a huge impact on safety and performance. But on top of that, if you need a prescription, not only do sunglasses protect your eyes and make you look good, they also help you see.
So let’s be honest. Aside from the countless health benefits, sunglasses are just straight-up cool. They can change your entire look and style – and even your identity (no exaggeration here). They can also become an iconic piece of someone’s identity; take for example, John Lennon, The Blues Brothers, Elton John – and yes, even Kanye. When it comes down to it, sunglasses help you see and be seen. I can’t think of a whole lot of things in this world that can equally fulfill that much fashion AND function. So in my opinion, they are truly a unique item. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we love sunglasses.
