What is MFI?

MFI is short for Magnetic Facemask Integration and is a technology exclusive to Anon. Using a facemask with snow goggles is standard practice, but the traditional use involves tucking fabric behind the foam of the goggle. This is not an easy adjustment with snow-caked gloves on — and can also feel uncomfortable. The potential for fogging is also much higher because you're breathing directly inside your goggle. Before MFI, the decision to wear a face mask came down to a choice of the lesser of two evils.

Luckily, Anon has the solution! Their MFI technology uses magnets inside the facemask that snap to the bottom of your goggles, creating a seal with no gaps. It is easy to attach and remove the mask from the goggle even with gloves on — and with minimal contact to the fabric. When it comes time to washing the mask, simply take out the magnet chassis, a.k.a. "carrier." It truly is ingenious!

Which Anon Goggles are MFI Compatible?

Most Anon snow goggles are MFI compatible, including their women's and youth frames. There are three types of carriers included with the facemask (depending on the goggles you buy): the black carrier, purple carrier, and gray carrier. The carrier is a plastic piece that holds the magnets.

The black carrier is compatible with:

  • M3
  • M2
  • Relapse Jr (Youth)
  • Tracker 2.0 (Youth)

The purple carrier is compatible with:

  • WM1
  • WM3

The gray carrier is compatible with:

  • M4
  • Sync

This carrier is what you take out to wash the mask. Or if you have several goggles but only one facemask, simply swap out the carriers.

What are the Types of MFI?

MFI comes in all shapes and sizes. There are several options for cold, moderate, and mild conditions. The fabrics themselves range from thick wool to thin mesh depending on what you need. You can even get them as a full sweatshirt if you want complete integration.

When you buy Anon snow goggles from SportRx, some come with a mask. If you prefer another mask, you can call us to place the order for an additional cost, or buy it directly from Anon's website. The M4 comes with a redesigned mask from its predecessor, the M3, and is only available with the goggle.

Why Wear MFI?

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many ski resorts now mandate a facemask. If you wear Anon snow goggles, you'll have the facemask securely in place at all times.

Aside from that, MFI is a good way of keeping your face and neck warm while you ski or snowboard. Enjoy a longer and more pleasant snow day with MFI technology!
