Before pursuing his eyewear career, Danny worked in the hospitality industry, providing customer service at a private boutique hotel. What he loved most about that job was being able to help travelers experience San Diego, the city he loved. One of the reasons he describes why SportRx is the perfect fit for him is that it allows him to help customers see the world they love through custom eyewear.
Danny brings over seven years of experience in the eyewear industry, including manufacturing lenses, selling glasses, and supervising optical labs. When he joined the team, he was drawn to SportRx’s dynamic work environment, which, in his words, “creates a challenge for me every day.” Danny finds it rewarding to craft tailored eyewear solutions for each customer's unique prescription, lifestyle, and style preferences. Despite his extensive knowledge, Danny continues to learn daily, whether it’s discovering the latest products or experimenting with lens tint combinations to find the perfect recipe for a customer.
Danny values the company culture at SportRx, particularly how every team member’s input is appreciated regardless of their role. He always feels he has a voice that is heard when sharing ideas or suggesting improvements. “With the flip of a switch, we could just make the change and expect it to be rolled out tomorrow.”
Danny’s passion for eyewear began with a personal experience. As a child, he attended a Santana concert with his family but struggled to see the legendary guitarist on stage. “We didn’t have the best seats, and I had to strain my eyes and squint to see him,” he recalls. Frustrated, he shared his experience with his mom, and a week later, they visited Walmart Optical, where Danny got his first pair of glasses. He jokingly describes them as “a little pair of Harry Potter-looking glasses.” Small and round wire frames that he hoped we be subtle and just enough to help him see better. Today, Danny rocks bold glasses with thick frames, the opposite of the look he was going for when he was younger.
His favorite frames include the Oakley Holbrook XL, a timeless design he’s loved since his twenties, and the Costa Paunch XL. He loves the Paunch XL so much that he recently reordered them. What makes these frames special is their full glass lenses, which offer unmatched clarity, scratch resistance, and durability. All these qualities are rarely found in an industry dominated by polycarbonate and Trivex lens materials. Costa’s proprietary 580 lens technology, is part of what makes Costa one of the top sunglass brands. These lenses filter harmful yellow light, reduce eye strain, and boost contrast and clarity. For Danny, who enjoys fishing in his free time, these lenses are essential for protecting his eyes from the sun and providing the best vision of the water’s surface.
Outside of work, Danny enjoys spending time with his family, including his two dogs, and working on his 1964 utility Volkswagen. Restoring and upgrading the vintage van is his weekend passion project, and he hopes to showcase it at local car meets soon. He often cruises with one of the other SportRx opticians, Tim, who recently bought an old truck to work on too. Danny’s dedication to restoring his old Volkswagen is a reflection of his dedication to craftsmanship, a quality he brings to every eyewear consultation at SportRx.
