I bought new prescription eyeglasses (wired rims).now i want to send back to get a grey tint on them. Optician says he will send to lab BUT if they break my wire frame they are NOT responsible. Professionals aren’t responsible?
Yeah, that's a fair frustration! The problem is, being that the office isn't the one providing the frame, they don't have the same coverage on the frame. Any frame can break at the lab, but if the office is providing the frame, they can work with their rep for that frame brand to get it replaced at little to no cost. If you bring in your own frame, they don't have that same ability. There is a chance that they don't even work with the frame brand you're trying to have them put lenses in, which can make it difficult to impossible to replace the frame on their own. Also, there can be minor wear and tear or even defects in the frame (weld/solder points and the like) that are imperceptible that can be the cause of a breakage at the lab. So, with all of these things in mind, it's common that you'll get a liability warning. It seems like a cop-out, but there is also a reason for it.
