How do Ray-Ban transition lenses work?

Ray-Ban transition lenses work by reacting to UV light. The quantity of UV light determines how dark the lenses will become. When you leave the UV-exposed environment, your lenses will adapt back to their default clear state. This light reactive process is why Ray-Ban transition lenses are also commonly referred to as light intelligent lenses™. With no effort on the wearer’s part, the lenses adapt seamlessly to the environment resulting in an ideal visual experience.

How clear and dark do Ray-Ban transition lenses get?

When indoors, your Ray-Ban transition lenses are perfectly clear. In the past, transition lenses have maintained a slight tint even in their non-activated state, but with today’s lens technology, transition lenses have improved in all aspects. They are clearer than before and darker when exposed to UV light.

When outdoors, Ray-Ban transition lenses become the iconic G-15 color. This smoky green-grey color has become Ray-Ban’s signature lens color. Originally debuting in the RB3025 Aviator, G-15 lenses are Ray-Ban’s first lens technology triumph that continues to be a favorite choice today. When your Ray-Ban transition lenses are in their activated G-15 state, you’ll experience natural vision and reduced eye strain.

How long do they take to transition?

Due to the Transitions® Signature Gen 8 technology, Ray-Ban transition lenses are some of the fastest light intelligent lenses™ on the market. Getting dark in just 35 seconds, this newest lens technology is 30% faster than the previous generation of Transitions®.*

As for fading back to clear, Ray-Ban transition lenses take under 5 minutes to return to their natural state. This is 3 minutes faster than the previous generation!*

Do Ray-Ban transition lenses work in the car?

No. Ray-Ban transition lenses will not transition behind the wheel. This is due to the fact that vehicular windows have UV treatments to prevent UV rays from passing through to the interior. Since Ray-Ban transition lenses are activated by UV light exposure, your lenses will not transition when driving.

Do Ray-Ban transition lenses have the logo?

Yes. When you select Ray-Ban Authentic Lenses, your Ray-Ban transition lenses will have the signature logo engraved on the right lens and the iconic RB initials on the left.
