Oakley Flight Deck Goggle Features

PRIZM™ Snow Lenses

The most popular feature in our Oakley Flight Deck Review is PRIZM™ tech. If you haven’t heard of PRIZM™, welcome to the party. PRIZM™ is Oakley’s proprietary contrast-enhancing lens tech. It is available in a wide range of eyewear and is designed for specific activities, including snowsports. The innovation of Oakley PRIZM™ Snow is based on decades of color science research. Oakley’s PRIZM™ Lens technology provides unmatched control of light transmission, maximizing contrast and enhancing visibility. Each lens is tailored to a specific weather condition, so you can ride confidently in any condition from bluebird to blizzard.

Lens Design

The next feature in our Oakley Flight Deck Goggles Review is the lens design. This goggle features a spherical lens. Spherical goggles mimic the shape of your eye, so you get minimal distortion. It offers a wide range of view, so you don’t miss a thing on the slopes. This shape also provides more room between your face and the lens, which reduces the chances of fogging. Since a spherical lens sticks out further away from your face than other lens types, there is the potential for helmet-goggle contact with the Flight Deck. Depending on your helmet design, it may push down on the goggle chassis, applying pressure to your nose. If you want to learn more about the different types of goggle lens designs, check out our blog on spherical, cylindrical, and toric goggle shapes.

Another popular feature of this goggle lens is its rimless design. Rimless goggles are preferred because the goggle itself doesn’t get in the way of your line of sight, giving you unobstructed downward and side-to-side views.

It doesn’t matter how great your lens tech is if you start to fog up on a run. That’s why the Oakley Flight Deck comes with an anti-fog coating located on the inside of the lens. Additionally, this goggle has dual-pane lenses. The extra layer of lens material helps manage the temperature difference from inside vs outside the goggle, reducing fogging.

The Flight Deck is a lightweight goggle, so you don’t have to worry about it weighing you down during a long day of riding. It also has antimicrobial, sweat-wicking triple-layer face foam. This securely seals the goggle to your face, while guaranteeing comfort. The adjustable silicon strap stays in place, so you don’t have to worry about readjusting on the chairlift between runs.

Oakley Flight Deck Goggle Sizes

The Flight Deck comes in two sizes—a medium and a large. The large-sized goggle, the Flight Deck L, used to just be called the ‘Flight Deck.’ It was the first and only Flight Deck, and was oversized with a large fit. Oakley expanded the lineup of Flight Deck sizes and therefore changed the naming conventions. If you often find that hats, helmets, and glasses fit you snugly, then you should choose the Flight Deck L.

The medium-sized goggle, the Flight Deck M, used to be called the ‘XM.’ It is an average-sized goggle, so if you fit in most hats, helmets, and sunglasses easily, this is probably your size.

How to Change Flight Deck Lenses

It wouldn’t be an in-depth Oakley Flight Deck Goggles review without talking about lens interchangeability. While the Flight Deck doesn’t come with multiple lenses, you can swap the lenses out if you purchase additional ones. Since it isn’t the easiest to swap lenses on the Oakley Flight Deck, we made a tutorial to help you out. Watch our video on how to change the lenses on the Oakley Flight Deck.

Oakley Flight Deck Goggles with Prescription

At SportRx, we have a team of Sports Opticians who share the same passions as you. When we aren’t in the lab, we’re shredding down mountains, cycling up hills, and running marathons. We believe your vision should never get in the way of your pursuits. That’s why we created prescription goggle inserts so you can enjoy your snow day to the fullest.

Prescription goggle inserts easily and securely fit into your favorite pair of goggles and are customizable to your unique prescription. Because they sit next to the goggle lens, they alleviate issues like fogging and discomfort that come with wearing glasses under goggles. You also get a wider range of vision with an insert than you do with glasses. Check out our blog on how Rx inserts compare to OTG goggles.
