Hey, Jam! Thank you for your feedback. I just went in and updated this blog to add a bit more details about the lenses. If you still have any questions on which lens may be right for you, don't hesitate to contact SportRx :D https://www.sportrx.com/contact
Hi! I tried a pair of MJ’s on a while back and didn’t take the lens down. All I can describe it as, is the sky was so blue and the colours around just popped ! I can’t figure out which lens it was. I do know it wasn’t a light lens. If you could help me I would be so grateful x
Hello Shanna! That's a tough one. Many MJ lenses achieve high levels of contrast and color enhancement. I will say that the lenses which provide the most contrast include the Maui Rose, HCL Bronze, Blue Hawaii, Hawaii Lava, and Maui Sunrise. The last 3 from that list have a heavy mirror application (also called Solid mirror) and appear 'darker' as they block more light than non-mirrored lenses. I would start with those options. I love maui jim sunglasses. I have the neutral grey but it sound like the hawaiian blue would be even a little darker due to its extra solid mirror. Also better contrast?
Hey there! Darker, no. The base tint for Blue Hawaii is bronze coupled with the solid mirror but The VLT (visible light transmission) is approximately the same for both (Blue Hawaii and Neutral Grey). This can also vary between lens materials. Contrast, definitely! The Bronze base will boost color and contrast whereas grey keeps colors fairly neutral and true to tone. Agreed, some of the best lenses you can get!
Apologies Ken! You're correct. The base color for the Blue Hawaii lens is neutral grey, not HCL Bronze. However, the combination of the grey base and blue mirror create an amber tone but lacks the overt color enhancement chieved with Bronze or Rose base tints. You'll still gain some contrast, and it's a great option for hot dry climates. The regular Neutral Grey also has a mirror (silver), but you'll get a tad bit more contrast with the Blue mirror.
I'm looking for kind of a do it all type of prescription sunglass. I play alot of poker, and would love a pair that conceal my eyes while playing, but would also like them for golf and every day driving. What would you suggest?
Hey Roger! You're gonna want a lens with a set tint & solid mirror to hide your eyes while playing poker. A non-polarized lens will help with depth perception on the golf course, and a bronze or rose base tint will boost color & contrast in your field of view. A couple options to consider are Oakley's Prizm Ruby, Tungsten, & Sapphire, Spy's Happy Bronze, & 100%s HiPER Red, Silver, or Blue mirror.
That's correct! All Maui Jim lenses feature polarization. Every color is offered in each non-prescription lens material. However, for prescription lenses, availability varies with certain color and lens material combinations.
