Hi Jim! Randolph Engineering Sunglasses offers frames with both temple options. The Bayonet temples provide a reliable hold even with thick heavy lenses, but some folks prefer the adjustability of skull temples as they can be bent downward towards ones shoulder creating a secure fit and feel similar to cable temples. You may want to opt for a hi index lens material to reduce thickness and a bit of weight in the lenses as well. For more information about temple and lens types give our opticians a ring or shoot us an email! 888.831.5817 info@sportrx.com
Thanks so much for talking about how glasses are meant to fit on your face. My grandmother recently broke a lens in her glasses but she loves the way they fit so she doesn't want to get a replacement. We've been looking into finding a repair place so she can wear her glasses again.
She may be out of luck. I tried to get new frames at Kaiser, that hugged the side of my head, so they won't fall off, and I can put a bike helmet over them, and safety goggles, etc.. I could get a narrower glasses, but and they said that different lengths of temple are no longer made. So the narrower glasses are for children so the temples are too short. The frames come with only one length of temple. That may be just what Kaiser stock, but they told me that nobody makes interchangeable temples any more.
Hey, Doug! Sorry to hear about the trouble you've had! It's true that there aren't really options to customize a frame and its temple length. However, some frames are offered in multiple sizes and - sometimes - the smaller sizes are available with a shorter temple. It is not the case that all adult glasses are made with the same temple length, though. Temple lengths in adult frames vary from 130mm-150mm, with fewer options available with the shorter and longer ends of that spectrum. Fortunately for Jessie's situation, it sounds like her grandmother only broke the lenses in her preferred pair. It is very possible to make lenses to fit in that original frame! We can definitely do it!
