The 29th annual Bike to Work Day was a huge success! On May 16th, 100 local businesses set up support pit stops for the record breaking number of Bike to Work Day participants. SANDAG iCommute organizes Bike to Work day as a part of the celebration of National Bike to Work Month. Typically Bike to Work day is celebrated nationwide on the third Friday of May. However, SANDAG found that participation is significantly higher on the third Thursday since so many San Diegans work 4 10 hr days instead of the traditional 5 8 hr days. This year participant records smashed past years before with over 8,200 riders visiting the 100 pit stops set up across San Diego. Bikers pedaled their way across San Diego for the good to their bodies, their wallets, and the environment.
Fan Favorite Pit Stop
Despite the threat of rain, SportRx was there to defend the title of Favorite Pit Stop for the 4th year running. The competition for best pit stop was steep and although we didn't take the title this year, we still had an amazing time celebrating.
“What goes into being the one of the favorite pit stops?” you may ask. On a typical day at SportRx, we have a water pit stop set up so naturally bike to work day calls for a more elaborate SAG stop. Since our first year taking home the favorite pit stop title in 2015, each year the bar has continued to rise. This year was no exception. After a year of preparation and coordination with local vendors and our eyewear brands, set up began at 4:45 am to get everything ready for the first riders coming through at 6 am. SportRxers excitedly waited for the first riders to arrive for our favorite day of the year.

We go all out for BTWD. Rusty Taylor, SportRx head of accounting and rocker, kicked off the morning with a live music performance of the national anthem as the first few riders came through the stop. A collection of vendors and sponsor pop-up tents lined the parking lot, passing out swag, yummy treats, coffee, and donuts. To top it all off, the cheering squad of SportRxers equipped with cowbells and high spirits kept the party going. Best Day Ever.
